As part of my final year project at university, I took part in the HSE Spark: Design on the Frontline 2025 student competition.

I developed the Lotus, a rehabilitation concept designed to support new lower limb amputees as they continue their recovery at home.

The product combines physical rehabilitation exercises with pain management support for the residual limb, alongside a dedicated companion app. I focused heavily on the Lotus app, creating a clean, accessible and intuitive interface designed to make rehabilitation feel simple and manageable for patients.

The app allows patients to control the Lotus, adjust vibration and exercise settings, time individual exercises and monitor their progress through personalised analytics. These insights create a visual record of the patient’s rehabilitation journey, which can also be shared with healthcare professionals

during appointments.

As the Lotus is designed to be rented through the HSE and taken home during recovery, the app needed to feel approachable and easy to navigate for users with varying levels of digital confidence. I developed the interface with accessibility, clear information hierarchy and ease of use at the forefront, creating a visual system that supports the patient throughout their rehabilitation journey rather than overwhelming them with information.
